Dr. Imanol Usabiaga

Assistant lecturer

Imanol Usabiaga is a researcher specializing in molecular spectroscopy and computational chemistry. His work focuses on understanding molecular interactions and their influence on three-dimensional structures, with applications in non-covalent chemistry and molecular recognition.

He earned his PhD (2012–2017) at the University of the Basque Country (EHU/UPV), investigating isolated molecular systems using mass-resolved laser spectroscopy in supersonic expansions. He then expanded his expertise as a postdoctoral researcher (2018–2019) at the University of Bologna, where he explored complementary spectral regions through microwave spectroscopy. His research integrates molecular mechanics and quantum mechanics calculations to enhance the interpretation of experimental data.

Currently, he holds a permanent position as an Associate Professor (Professor Agregado) at the University of the Basque Country (EHU/UPV) and plays a key role in the Molecular Cartography research line, within the group’s scientific committee. In addition to his research, he has taught the full curriculum of the Department of Physical Chemistry, contributing to the training of future scientists.

His work is dedicated to mapping molecular interactions, understanding potential energy surfaces, and unraveling the principles governing molecular structure and behavior.
